Stellar Deception

Our entry for the 81st Godot Wild Jam. Travel from destination to destination, dodge asteroids, make choices, and balance consequences. Stellar Deception!

You are Captain Drubert Velacion Siracha Cottage Filterfuzzen Golapsy the 4th the 5th esq, freelancer of the stars. You've been hired to transport a sealed package to the Alien Homeworld. Even though Humans and Aliens have made peace, there is still danger out in the endless void. You must maintain your Ship, your Crew, and your Cash reserves throughout your journey.

How to play:

WASD or Arrow Keys to move your ship

Left-click to fire

Space to skip intro (although why would you, it's amazing lol)

Known Bugs:

Here's what I've found (and some fixed) before the deadline lol

  • Sounds degrade over time (fixed by reloading the stream of an AudioStreamPlayer after 25 plays, kinda jank but it's working it holds it off some... eventually your guns and explosions no longer make sounds. Maybe it's a feature lol)
  • If the game opens in a separate window, the intro cutscene starts playing, but the intro sound doesn't start until you click in the window, and then it is out of sync.
  • Choppy performance (Unsure of what the the main cause of this)
  • Not enough asteroids / Too many asteroids (fixed my asteroid spawner logic lol, lack of sleep is real)
  • Black Hole event doesn't teleport you (seems to work 10% of the time, not sure why)
  • Crash/Freeze (fixed)
  • Sometimes when you defeat a ship, multiple victory events will happen.

Themes:

  • Expedition (Main theme)
  • Are we the baddies? (Wildcard)
  • Side effects includes... (Wildcard)
  • A Capella (Wildcard)

Scenarios, Events, Ideas, Sounds: Me (AxeWizard) and my sons

Art: My eldest son

Coding: Me

All sounds were created with our voices. The music was made by recording me going "ahhhh", then using Garageband's pitch correction on it, exporting it as a small file, and then using that sound sample on a MIDI keyboard. "Drum" sounds are my attempt at basic beat boxing lol
